Project details:
Forest Park Conservancy will be working in Marquam Nature Park, celebrating No Ivy Day in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation, where we will remove invasive English ivy to help restore native habitat! This will make space for native species to thrive and support future revegetation efforts. We will be removing ground ivy and cutting it up.
Long pants, long socks, and sturdy, closed-toe tennis shoes or hiking boots are required for your safety. Long-sleeved shirts and weather appropriate layers for sun/wind/rain are also recommended. Make sure to bring a water bottle - many folks find it beneficial to bring a small backpack as well. If you have any allergies, please bring medications in case of emergency! Training, tools, snacks, coffee, and work gloves will be provided.
Closest address to meeting location: 2158 SW Broadway Dr, Portland, OR 97239
Parking and public transit: Park on the side of SW Broadway Dr or SW Davenport St. The Broadway TH is located on the south side of SW Broadway Dr. Another option is to park in the parking lot at the Marquam Nature Park Shelter and hike north up the Sunnyside Trail (0.4 mi) to the Broadway Trail (0.2 mi) to reach the meeting spot. You can also access this site by taking the #8 Bus to the SW Terwilliger and Sam Jackson stop, walking past the Shell station, and taking a right onto SW Marquam St until you reach the parking lot, then follow the previous hiking directions to reach the meeting spot. More information can be found at Trimet.org.
Children are welcome if accompanied by an attentive adult.
Location description/accessibility: We will be working on the trails, which requires hiking a short distance on uneven ground and physical labor (including bending) in the forest (up to 2.5 hours). A portable restroom will be available on site at the Marquam shelter.
