Forest Park Stewardship Event

Volunteer Event
Join Portland Parks & Recreation to enhance habitat for plants and wildlife in Forest Park!
9:00 am 12:00 pm

Project details
Join Portland Parks & Recreation to remove invasively growing non-native species, including English ivy, clematis and Himalayan blackberry in Forest Park. Removing invasively growing species enhances wildlife habitat and encourages regeneration of native plant species to prevent erosion and water runoff. This is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature.

Please bring your own water bottle, wear closed toe shoes, and dress for the weather. Instructions, tools, and gloves will be provided. For the safety of staff and other volunteers, please stay home if you are feeling sick.

Registration is required!

Meeting Location: Holman Lane Trailhead (map link here)

Parking and public transportation: Please be respectful of neighbors when parking - the best place to park is on NW Savier Street, and NW Aspen Avenue north of the Savier Street intersection.

#15 drops off at NW Vaughn and 27th, which is a 20+ minute walk to the trailhead.  More information can be found at Trimet.org. Bikers are able to lock their bikes at the trailhead as long as the bikes do not obstruct the gate or the walk through on the sides of the gate.

Children are welcome. Any child under 14 years of age needs to be accompanied by an attentive adult.

Accessibility: This event will require bending over, walking off-trail on uneven surfaces and walking up to 15 minutes on a steep trail. A portable restroom will be available at this site (not ADA compliant).

Thank you for your interest in volunteering to keep Portland's natural area parks healthy, beautiful, and safe for people and wildlife! Here are a few tips to get you ready for your stewardship event.

  • Registration is required for all stewardship events.
  • All tools, gloves and training to do the task is provided.
  • In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness.
  • While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week or on weekends. Learn more about programs for groups

If you are looking for community service to fulfill court requirements, please call 503-823-5121. You must be registered with our program before undertaking any community service.
