Join the Hoyt Arboretum Friends Saturday Crew to help care for the trees and trails at Hoyt Arboretum! With 189 acres and over 6,000 trees along 12 miles of trails, volunteers are incredibly important to maintaining Hoyt Arboretum's tree collection and trail system. This is a great opportunity to learn about and care for rare and unusual trees and plants from around the world.
Stewardship crews occur rain or shine, so please come dressed for the weather, including long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Volunteers should bring water, snacks, and any personal items they need for the day. We provide gloves, tools, training, and parking passes.
A reminder email will be sent out a week prior to the event to confirm details.
Meeting location address: 4000 SW Fairview Blvd. Portland, OR 97221
Parking and meeting location: Volunteers will meet in the maintenance yard behind the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center. There are two pay-to-park lots located near the Visitor Center, along with limited free parking along SW Fairview Blvd.
Public transit: The MAX Red and Blue Lines drop off at the Washington Park Station and it's about a 15-minute walk uphill via the Overlook Trail to the meeting location. Plan your trip using the TriMet Trip Planner.
Volunteers must be 16 years or older: Volunteers between 16 and 17 are welcome to volunteer without an adult, as long as a youth waiver form has been signed by an adult prior to the event. Contact Rowan for more information about this requirement.
Location description and accessibility: Volunteers will be working off of established trails and on uneven surfaces. Some bending, lifting, digging, and use of various tools is required. Volunteers are encouraged to select tasks within their abilities and comfort levels. Two single-stall bathrooms and two water fountains are located at the Visitor Center, which may be up to a 15-minute walk from the work site.
