Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge Litter Pick Up Event

Project details

Help improve the habitat of Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge with Portland Parks & Recreation and the Friends of Oaks Bottom. We will be removing litter to benefit the health of this ecosystem and provide more habitat for local wildlife. Please wear long durable pants, weather appropriate layers, and closed toed shoes. Gloves, tools, light snacks, warm beverages and instruction will be provided.

Location

Parking and public transportation

There is a small lot at the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge North Parking Lot. If the parking lot is full, there is additional parking along SE Milwaukie Avenue. Use Plan your trip | TriMet for public transit.

Meeting Location

Park at and enter the part at the North Parking Lot & Trailhead. Enter the trail which will be marked with a white A-frame sign on the south side of the parking lot.  There will be about a ~10 minute walk downhill on a paved path to our meeting site. Follow the event signs and look for the green canopy.

Our group will be working mostly on flat but uneven terrain. 

Helpful information for participants

Thank you for helping to keep Portland parks healthy and beautiful! Here are a few tips to get you ready for your stewardship event.

• In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!
• Registration is required for all stewardship events, unless otherwise noted.
• Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness.
• All tools, gloves and training to do the task is provided.
• While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week or on weekends. If you are looking for community service to fulfill court requirements, please call 503-823-5121. You must be registered with our program before undertaking any community service

Other Community Service Hours

To verify participation for school or other service hour requirements, please bring your own method of tracking and check in with the Stewardship Coordinator or event leader during the event to get a signature or other verification. Please follow registration guidelines for the event you would like to participate in for service.
