Laurelhurst Park Community Volunteer Day

Label: Volunteer event
Bee a friend to the park! Join the Friends of Laurelhurst Park and PP&R to help with monthly gardening and land care activities!
9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Volunteer with us!

The Friends of Laurelhurst Park (FLP) invite you to monthly work parties to help keep the park looking lush. New and returning volunteers are welcome to attend drop-in style, and no previous gardening experience is required to participate.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about gardening, plants, and to connect with your neighbors and community. Plant care activities vary monthly. Tools and instructions provided. Open to all skills, paces, and abilities.

Participants 16 and younger should be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.

Meet at the green PP&R building on the north side of the park, 3600 SE Ankeny St.

Contact the Friends of Laurelhurst Park

Portland Parks & Recreation works in partnership with the Friends of Laurelhurst Park to help maintain and sustain the flora in the park. Together, we host monthly volunteer events from April through October.

The Friends of Laurelhurst Park are seeking new volunteers to help with organizing and leadership in the group! This is a great opportunity to get more involved in tending the park.

For questions about volunteering at a monthly work party or if you are interested in learning more about volunteering with FLP in a leadership capacity, please contact the Friends of Laurelhurst Park at laurelhurst.parkfriends@gmail.com

Event Reminders

Inclement Weather Plan: We usually work rain, shine, and in between! Volunteer events will be cancelled due to inclement and severe weather.

Please bring a reusable water bottle if you have one, and any snacks you may need. Wear sturdy close-toed shoes, clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty, and layers to dress for the weather.

Work looks and feels different for every body. We encourage volunteers to go at their own pace and take breaks to rest.

Keep yourself and your community safe and healthy - please stay home if you are sick. There will always be more opportunities to volunteer with us!

To find bus routes and public transportation options, check out the TriMet Trip Planner tool.

Looking for community service to fulfill court requirements?

Please call 503-823-5121 or contact the event coordinator listed on this page. You must be registered with the program before participating in any community service.

Site Accessibility

Laurelhurst Park is a large site with paved pathways throughout the park. There are many different parts of the park we will work in during monthly volunteer events. Some activities may require bending, kneeling, stooping, or navigating across grass or up and down inclines. Many parts of the park are heavily shaded, with some areas having open sun exposure.

There are ADA accessible restrooms on-site.

If you have an ADA accommodation request to be able to participate in this volunteer event, please use the 311 ADA Accommodation Request webpage.

If you would like to learn more about or request language access services, please contact PDX 311.

We recommend making your request as soon as possible and at least 5 business days (Monday - Friday) in advance of the event.

If you have questions about the accessibility of the event, please contact Developed Parks Coordinator, Kimberléa Ruffu (they/them) at kimberlea.ruffu@portlandoregon.gov.
