Wilkes Creek Headwaters - Mulching and Plant Care Event

Volunteer Event
Please join Portland Parks & Recreation, Friends of Trees and 7 Waters Canoe Family to weed and mulch recently planted native wildflowers at Wilkes Creek Headwaters!
10:00 am 1:00 pm

Please join Portland Parks & Recreation, Friends of Trees and 7 Waters Canoe Family to weed and mulch native wildflowers at Wilkes Creek Headwaters. Adding mulch around plants helps them hold onto moisture during the dry summer months, and helps keep weedy plants out. Did you know there are over 500 different species of bees native to Oregon? Planting native wildflowers helps support pollinators like bees and butterflies and improves habitat for local wildlife and people.

Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy, waterproof shoes, and bring personal water bottle and snacks. Tools, gloves, project instruction, coffee/tea and light snacks will be provided.

Registration is required.

Here are a few tips to get you ready for your stewardship event.

  • Registration is required for all stewardship events, unless otherwise noted.
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness.
  • All tools, gloves and training to do the task is provided.
  • In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!
  • While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group.
