Please join Portland Parks & Recreation and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council to plant native wildflowers at Wilkes Creek Headwaters. Did you know there are over 500 different species of bees native to Oregon? Planting native wildflowers helps support pollinators like bees and butterflies and improves habitat for local wildlife and people.
Please dress for the weather (layers and rain gear are great!), wear sturdy, waterproof shoes, and bring personal water bottle and snacks. Tools, gloves, project instruction, coffee/tea and light snacks will be provided.
Registration is required.
Meeting Location
We will meet at the park entrance at the dead end of NE Fremont Street, at the intersection of NE 154th Ave and NE Fremont Street.
Bus
There is a #21 bus stop at NE Sandy and NE 154th Ave. It is a .2 mile walk to the park from there.
Site Description
We will be working in an area that has uneven ground and some sloped areas, with tall thick grass. There will be a porta potty within walking distance.

Here are a few tips to get you ready for your stewardship event.
- Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have tested positive for Covid-19. There will be other opportunities to volunteer!
- In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes; long pants and long-sleeved shirts; and be ready to get dirty!
- Unless otherwise noted, all events are family-friendly and all ages are welcome to participate. However, children under 14 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult for the duration of the event.
- While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a group of 10 or more people. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools and project tasks for everyone. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week or on weekends. Learn more about programs for groups
- If you are looking for community service to fulfill court requirements, please call 503-823-5121. You must be registered with our program before undertaking any community service.
