History

Cottonwood Bay Park is part of the larger Willamette Greenway Trail, and features one of the few remaining stands of cottonwood trees on the west bank of the Willamette River. In the early 1990s, the site was just a tax lot until a developer for the nearby Avalon Hotel approached the City about putting in some amenities. Working together, a natural area was created for the public to enjoy. To complement the natural area, the developer hired a landscape architect to design a native landscape around the hotel.
