Project Updates

October 2024

Construction complete and fences removed. The park is now open! There is a new entry plaza by Gateway Transit Center that lead into new trails, a jump line, and a skills area.

Contractors will continue sign updates and plantings across the park.

July 2024

Construction on the south trail line has started to connect into the existing trail lines seamlessly.

March 2024

South end of the park closed until August 2024 (this date is subject to change). Construction begins April 2024 to rebuild and improve the south side of the park's trail lines. We anticipate an opening date of late Summer/Fall 2024, with a grand opening celebration slated for October 2024.

TriMet's 'A Better Red' Construction Project

Included a new south entrance directly connecting to Gateway Transit Center and an improved version of Linda’s Line and Rebar Ridge. Due to a major TriMet construction project, the south end of Gateway Green is closed from September 2021 through late 2024.  For more information, visit Gateway Green Park.

TriMet’s Better Red project extends MAX Red Line west to serve 10 more stations and improves schedule reliability for the entire MAX system. The project adds new multi-use paths at Gateway and PDX, creating more options for accessing transit and getting around without a car.

At Gateway, Better Red will add a second track, in a section where MAX Red Line has only one track that creates bottlenecks affecting the entire light rail system.

This requires construction of two new bridges at Gateway Green Park: one spanning the existing MAX track and I-205 multi-use path, and another spanning I-84 and Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This new bridge over the freeway and railroad will include a multi-use path, providing easier access to Gateway Green for both park users and emergency vehicles.

How to get there?

This park is car-free! Access Gateway Green along the I-205 bike and pedestrian path, between Maywood Park and the Gateway Transit Center. The only public access points are by bike or foot along this path. Visitors should plan on a quarter to half a mile walk, roll, or ride along the I-205 Trail. Walkers and bicycle riders can reach the site via the Hub entry, on the eastern side of the park near the Pump Track. Walkers and bicycle riders can reach the site via the Hub entry, on the eastern side of the park near the Pump Track.

Dogs are required to be on leash at all times in the park.

Wet Weather Rules
Please remember the following wet weather guidelines when riding; we need your help to keep Gateway Green’s trails and features in great shape during the Northwest winter. Scout the ride and use extra caution on wet or muddy days.

  • Single-track riders: stay off the trails following significant rain events (if you would leave a boot or tire track, don’t use the trails)
  • Jump-line riders: NO riding during muddy days
  • Skills area/ Pump track: No riding once mud begins to stick to wood features or on the pump track

Thanks for riding considerately and for keeping our parks safe and fun.
