Welcome to Summer!

Each summer, Summer Free For All partners with community groups, artists, nonprofits, and culturally specific groups, among others, to produce free concerts, movies, and cultural events throughout Portland. If you are looking to bring an amazing event to your community, our team is ready to help!

Types of Events

Summer Free For All has three types of events to choose from:

Concert/Performance Events

  • Traditionally known as “Concerts in the Park,” these events feature a local artist, band, or performer.
  • Concert/Performance Events start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m.

Movie Events

  • Traditionally known as “Movies in the Park,” these events feature a screening of a movie chosen by your group.
  • Movie Events start at 7:30 p.m. and the movie begins at sunset (time TBD).

Cultural Events

  • If you have an idea for an event that does not fit into the “Concert/Performance” or “Movie” category, we would love to hear from you!
  • Some event ideas we have partnered with groups on in the past include comedy, dance, theater, cultural celebrations, spoken word, and poetry. We are also open to working with you on other events as well. Let us know what you have in mind.

Where and When?

  • Summer Free For All events are held at city parks. Specific park locations for each event are requested by the group hosting the event in collaboration with the Summer Free For All Cultural Events team.
  • The 2023 season will take place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from July 13 to September 2.
  • Summer Free For All Cultural Events are traditionally held in the evenings. If you have an idea for an event that takes place earlier, please get in touch.

Requesting Music Genres or Movie Titles

  • For Concert/Performance Events, groups will provide their top three music genres and/or performance types.
  • For Movie Events, groups will provide their top three movie choices.

As all events are open to the general public, we balance the requests of community partners with the citywide goals of Summer Free For All. Final determination of the performer/music group and movie title will be made by Summer Free For All in collaboration with the group hosting the event.

How Much Does It Cost?

  • The community contribution for all groups hosting Summer Free For All events is $1,000.00 and is due by Friday,June 2, 2023.
  • If you have questions about how to fundraise for your event or scholarship opportunities, contact us at sffa@portlandoregon.gov. We are happy to help!
