Summer Free For All builds community through free, inclusive, and family-friendly activities that celebrate Portland’s diverse cultures and local artists.
Updates for Summer 2021
Our planning for this summer has been guided by the Oregon Health Authority’s (OHA) general rules on Outdoor Entertainment Establishments and the specific rules that apply based on Multnomah County’s current Risk Level.
Multnomah County is currently under Moderate Risk. This designation limits outdoor events to a maximum of 25% capacity. Our events traditionally draw crowd sizes that we believe would exceed this capacity limit. For reference, the 2019 Summer Free For All season had an average attendance of 395 people per movie and 1,262 per concert.
To meet public health guidelines and to protect our community from COVID-19, we will not be producing large-scale events, including movies and concerts in the park in summer 2021. Applications to host events are not being accepted in 2021.
Although we are unable to produce large-scale events this summer, we are still committed to bringing joy to Portlanders by positively activating our parks with arts and culture; following the guidance of public health experts; and supporting local musicians and artists. Here is what to expect for Summer Free For All events in summer 2021:
- Pop-up performances at parks throughout the city in July and August featuring small performance groups
- Performances will be unadvertised and “discovered” by those who are in the park during Free Lunch + Play mealtimes, early evenings, and/or on weekends.
- Pop-up performances will be produced and funded by PP&R.
We are confident that the joyful spirit of Summer Free For All will again be a part of our community’s parks this summer. We are looking forward to resuming movies and concerts in parks in 2022!
