Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)’s Parks for New Portlanders division, in partnership with Sunday Parkways, presents the Walk with Refugees and Immigrants event on Sunday, August 20, 2017. The walk’s aim is to celebrate Portland’s compassionate, generous and welcoming spirit towards refugees & immigrants. 

WHAT: Walk with Refugees and Immigrants

WHEN: Sunday, August 20, 2017, 11am

WHERE: Starting point: East Portland Neighborhood Office (EPNO), 1017 NE 117th Ave, ending at PP&R’s Knott Park, NE 117th Ave. and Knott St., about .8 miles.

“Portland Parks & Recreation embraces all Portlanders, whether they’ve been here for a week or lived here all their lives,” says Portland Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz. “The Walk with Refugees and Immigrants is the latest in a groundswell of PP&R events showing support for our friends and neighbors.”

Celebration highlights include:

  • -Recognizing refugee and immigrant champions.
    -Local musicians originally from around the world will play their traditional music and give performance during the walk.
    -Soccer games and school supply giveaways while supplies last 
    -Free lunch for those 18 and under, while supplies last.

“Portland Parks & Recreation is committed to equity and inclusion,” says PP&R Director Mike Abbaté. “And we want everyone to feel welcomed, and to have a sense of belonging in all parts of our system.  I am thankful to all our staff and partners for their efforts, and look forward to a fun and inspiring Walk.”
