Last Friday, the OVP team, Multnomah County Commissioner Jessica Vega Pederson, her staff, and Trauma and Violence Impacted Family Coordinator – Hiag Brown visited various neighborhoods in North and NE Portland where we have lost community members to senseless acts of gun violence.

This tour helped share insight with one of our Multnomah County partners - who invests resources in prevention and intervention efforts for gun violence.

Taking a moment to visit these places help ground and bring to reality the importance of our work. It also puts into conversation, the importance of crime prevention through environmental design, the impact of displacement, who is being affected, and the community's needs.

Director Greene, Coordinator Hiag Brown, and Program Manager Mustafa Washington are all native Portlanders who were able to provide historical insight on the different neighborhoods we visited. This was key in understanding the resilience of the community, sense of place and belonging, and the effects of gentrification.

We would like to thank Commissioner Vega Pederson and her staff for taking the time to learn more about our programs and how we can collaborate to address gun violence.
