To succeed, the Charter Commission needs to hear from Portlanders about how local government can work for them. That's why we're looking for an Engagement and Communications Coordinator to support this once-a-decade opportunity to examine Portland's founding document.

Over the next two years, this position will play an essential role in designing ways to share our work and learn what people want from the City of Portland, especially communities who have historically lacked access to government decision-making. Co-creating this process with community based organizations will be an important part of our strategy.

I couldn't put it any better than Jenny Lee and Marcus Mundy, leaders of the Coalition of Communities of Color, who wrote an editorial in the Portland Mercury. "The Commission won’t be able to do this work alone, and the city must continue its investment in BIPOC leadership by supporting community engagement," they wrote.

So, are you a community engagement professional who's excited about the opportunity to amplify Portlanders' voices in our government and democracy? Are you passionate about civic participation and committed to anti-racism and equity?

Then we hope you read more about the Charter Commission Engagement and Communications Coordinator and apply by March 22, 2021.
