BDS has adopted an Interim Demolition Administrative Rule, effective February 10, 2020, that revises the inspection requirements for demolitions of structures used for residential purposes with four or fewer dwelling units and any detached accessory structures with a floor area over 200 square feet.

Earlier this year, Development Services proposed an amendment to Title 11, Trees, to extend the sunset date of certain regulations passed in 2016 that strengthened tree preservation requirements (especially preservation of large sized trees) in development situations on private property.

Deconstruction Ordinance Expansion
Portland’s existing deconstruction ordinance is expanding. Effective on and after January 20, 2020 permit applications for demolition of a house or duplex built in 1940 or earlier will be required to deconstruct using a Certified Deconstruction Contractor.
