The City of Portland has officially signed onto a new international initiative alongside Paris, Phoenix, Melbourne, and other global cities to ensure that the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and data infrastructure is guided by environmental responsibility.

"Portland is proud to stand alongside global cities like Paris and Phoenix in calling for a more sustainable future for artificial intelligence," said Mayor Keith Wilson. "As AI reshapes industries and communities, we must ensure that its growth does not come at the expense of our environment."

Launched at the C40 World Mayors Summit in Rio, the agreement commits cities to empower local leaders with transparent planning tools, set shared environmental and social standards, prioritize sustainable growth that benefits residents and businesses alike, and foster open dialogue among governments, companies, and communities.

By joining this initiative, Portland reaffirms its leadership in climate action and innovation, working to align AI and data infrastructure with the goals of the Paris Agreement and net-zero pathways.
