When community members report concerns about campsites, the Homelessness and Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program assesses each location, helps clean up trash and debris, and evaluates health and safety risks. See how the program served Portland this week.

From March 14 - 20, 2022, the Impact Reduction Program:

  • Received 1242 new campsite reports, including 111 reports of people living in vehicles
  • Observed about 361 active campsites, accounting for duplicate reports about the same locations
  • Assessed approximately 545 campsites, engaging with people living there, collecting garbage and biohazardous materials, and coordinating with service providers
  • Cleaned 14 campsites, removing only identified garbage and biohazardous materials
  • Removed 24 campsites that posed a risk to health and safety, safely storing campers' personal property

North Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • Near 6659 N Missouri Ave

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • N Larrabee and N Broadway to Hancock
  • East side of Steel Bridge on ramp at N Interstate
  • N Curtis and N Trenton (a)

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • I-5 NB and N Marine Drive MUP
  • I-5 NB off ramp at N Marine Drive
  • N Denver and Schmeer MUP
  • I-5 SB and N Ainsworth

Northeast Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • Near 3610 NE 82nd

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • NE Knott and NE Rodney to NE Russell
  • NE 43rd and NE Halsey off ramp
  • NE 100th and NE Weidler
  • NE Lloyd and NE Grand
  • NE 99th and E Burnside (a)

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • Under NE Cesar Chavez on NE Halsey 

Southeast Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • SE 136th and SE Clinton
  • SE 12th and SE Alder
  • SE 94th and SE Pardee
  • Near 8115 SE Crystal Springs
  • SE 92nd and SE Powell
  • SE 57th-61st and SE Powell
  • Near 219 SE 28th

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • SE Cesar Chavez, north of SE Oak
  • SE 162nd and SE Alder
  • SE 3rd and SE Oak to SE Pine
  • SE 2nd and SE Oak
  • SE 36th and SE Hawthorne
  • SE 60th and SE Powell
  • SE 75th and SE Powell

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • 99 E at SE 7th

  • I-205 MUP from SE Schiller to SE Holgate

Southwest Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • SW 13th and SW Main

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • West side of Ross Island bridge on/off ramp
  • SW 3rd and SW Main

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • I-405 SB and SW Park to SW 6th
  • I-405 NB and SW 4th to SW 5th

Northwest Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • Near 220 NW 2nd
  • NW 15th and W Burnside
  • NW 4th and NW Davis
  • NW 21st and NW Kearney

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • NW 6th and NW Glisan to NW Irving
  • NW Davis from NW 4th to Waterfront
  • West side of Steel bridge, near the day storage unit
  • NW 3rd from NW Flanders to NW Couch

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • NW Naito and NW Couch to NW Ankeny
