When community members report concerns about campsites, the Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program assesses each location, helps clean up trash and debris, and evaluates health and safety risks. See how the program served Portland this week.

From Dec. 20-26, the Homelessness and Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program:

  • Received 624 new campsite reports, including 81reports of people living in vehicles
  • Received reports about 183 active campsites, accounting for duplicate reports about the same locations
  • Assessed approximately 286 campsites, engaging with people living there, collecting garbage and biohazardous materials, and coordinating with service providers
  • Cleaned 13 campsites, removing only identified garbage and biohazardous materials
  • Removed 11 campsites that posed a risk to health and safety, safely storing campers' personal property

North Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • I-5 N Flint and Hancock

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • Peninsula Crossing Trail N Fessenden- N Columbia

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

Northwest Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • NW 14th St. and NW Quimby
  • NW 20th and NW Vaughan

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • NW 2nd and NW Glisan

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • NW 20th and NW Vaughan

Northeast Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • NE 3rd and NE Hancock 
  • NE 33rd and NE Sunderland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • NE 42nd and Lombard

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • NE 16th and I-84 Eastbound

Southeast Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • SE  9th and SE Yamhill
  • SE 8th and SE Clay
  • SE 82nd and SE Clinton
  • I-205 Multi-Use Path and Powell
  • SE Knapp (x2)
  • SE 108th and SE Foster

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • SE 60th - 61st and SE Powell
  • SE 6th and SE Ivon
  • Near 1515 SE Water
  • SE 9th - 10th and SE Alder
  • SE Division St under SE Grand/MLK
  • SE 79th between SE Tibbetts and SE Franklin

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • SE 19th and SE Division 
  • SE Oak between SE Cezar Chavez and SE 37th
  • SE 3rd between SE Ask and SE Ankeny 

Southwest Portland 

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • SW 1st and SW Washington
  • SW Montgomery from SW 12th to SW 13th 

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • SW 18th and SW Mill
  • SW Naito under Burnside Bridge - PPB Abatement

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • S Harbor and S Harrison
