When community members report concerns about campsites, the Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program assesses each location, helps clean up trash and debris, and evaluates health and safety risks. See how the program served Portland this week.

From Dec. 13-19, the Homelessness and Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program:

  • Received 1853 new campsite reports, including 734 reports of people living in vehicles
  • Received reports about 246 active campsites, accounting for duplicate reports about the same locations
  • Assessed approximately 416 campsites, engaging with people living there, collecting garbage and biohazardous materials, and coordinating with service providers
  • Cleaned 19 campsites, removing only identified garbage and biohazardous materials
  • Removed 11 campsites that posed a risk to health and safety, safely storing campers' personal property

North Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • N Failing and N Interstate
  • N Monroe and N Mississippi

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • I-5 near N Tillamook and N Flint
  • BES Pollution Control Lab
  • N Columbia Blvd and N Columbia Way Loop

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • Peninsula Crossing Trail N Fessenden to Columbia (to be re-posted in early January)

Northeast Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • NE 3rd and NE Hancock 
  • NE 33rd and NE Sunderland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • Peace Park and NE Lloyd
  • NE Everett Grand to MLK
  • NE 102 to NE 106 and NE Wasco (near Gateway Discovery Park) (a)

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • NE 16th and I-84 Eastbound
  • NE 42nd and Lombard

Southeast Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • SE  9th and SE Yamhill
  • SE 8th and SE Clay
  • SE 82nd and SE Clinton
  • I-205 Multi-Use Path and Powell
  • SE Knapp (x2)
  • Near 4403 SE 9th

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • SE 73rd and SE Harold
  • SE 40th and SE Belmont (a)

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • SE Division St under SE Grand/MLK
  • SE 19th and SE Division 
  • SE 79th between SE Tibbetts and SE Franklin
  • SE 60th and SE Powell
  • SE 6th and SE Ivon
  • Near 1515 SE Water
  • SE Oak between SE Cezar Chavez and SE 37th
  • SE 3rd between SE Ask and SE Ankeny 
  • SE Ash from SE 2nd to SE 3rd 

Southwest Portland 

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • SW 1st and SW Washington
  • SW Montgomery from SW 12th to SW 13th 
  • S Caruthers Pedestrian Tunnel

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • SW 18th and SW Mill
  • Tunnel by S Grover St
  • W Burnside and SW 14th

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • S Harbor and S Harrison
  • SW 1th from SW Clay to SW Mill

Northwest Portland

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned the following sites:

  • NW 23rd and NW Vaughn
  • NW 6th and NW Davis
  • near 210 NW Broadway

The Impact Reduction Team cleaned and removed the following sites:

  • NW 16th and NW Raleigh

Based on health and safety criteria, the following locations have been posted for removal:

  • NW Vaughn onramp to I-405
  • NW 2nd and NW Glisan
