The Wash House Laundry Program

Label: Information
The Wash House offers laundry service to individuals experiencing homelessness.

The Wash House
Location: 2609 SE 6th Ave., Portland, OR 97202
Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (except holidays)

Users can drop off items to be laundered and can pick up same day or next day. One bag per person per day, max 40 lbs. Laundry customers will be given a ticket with their pick up date and time.

The Wash House was established with start up funding and support from the City of Portland's Impact Reduction Program. The facility serves people experiencing homelessness, who face challenges in accessing hygiene services like laundry. The Wash House helps improve health and comfort for customers, and also reduces textile waste in the landfill.

In addition to processing laundry from walk-in customers, staff at The Wash House wash and dry textiles recovered from litter pick-up shifts, and textile items left unclaimed at the City's property storage warehouse. Those reclaimed clothes, shoes and bedding go back into circulation through homeless service organizations.

The Wash House is managed and staffed by participants of Ground Score Association's GLITTER program. Most GLITTER participants come to the program with their own lived experience with homelessness, and many have barriers to more traditional jobs, making work at The Wash House an important, easy-entry work opportunity.

Ground Score Association is fiscally sponsored by Trash for Peace.
