Across Portland neighborhoods, portable toilets increase the availability of public restrooms to help support health and hygiene for people experiencing homelessness and improve neighborhood livability.
Providing hygiene access is part of the Homelessness and Urban Camping Impact Reduction Program's work to minimize the impacts of homelessness today while the City of Portland and its partners expand long-term access to safe, affordable housing.
To serve as many people as possible, the City selects locations based on a detailed analysis of areas where houseless people are living, interviews with people living in encampments, an audit of existing public restrooms and an assessment of human waste.
