2. Join the Earth Day Community Bike Ride

Show up in style. Join the Earth Day Community Bike Ride at Colonel Summers Park and ride to the fun at Laurelhurst Park. Saturday, April 19.

3. Unlock BIKETOWN for free

Starting April 16 through Tuesday, April 22, BIKETOWN, Portland's bike share system, is offering free unlock codes for ebikes or scooters. Enter the code EARTHDAYPDX2025 under "rewards" in the BIKETOWN or Lyft app to claim $1 off your ride.

4. Pitch in at the Jade District Spring Cleanup

Safe Blocks, APANO, and SOLVE invite you to the Jade District Spring Cleanup. Come help clean up our streets for Earth Day and the 82nd Avenue Parade of Roses. Registered participants will receive a free lunch. Saturday, April 19.

5. Volunteer at a park

So much to choose from! Join a work party at Columbia Park, or Pier Park, or Powell Butte, or Errol Heights. Everyone is welcome. No experience necessary. But please register in advance. Check out our events calendar for more Earth Day volunteer opportunities.

6. Go on a neighborhood walk in Brentwood Darlington

Oregon Walks invites neighbors to join its Earth Day: Brentwood Darlington Neighborhood Walk. Oregon Walks promotes walking and advocates for safe, convenient, and attractive walking conditions as an essential part of thriving, sustainable, and connected communities. The walk will stop at Black Futures Farm, which is both a community-building and production farm, where we grow meaningful relationships alongside vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Saturday, April 19.

7. Get on the Bike Bus

Do you work downtown? Hop on an Earth Day Bike Bus. Yes, nine separate bike busses will set off from different locations around the city and converge downtown for coffee, music and treats. We're going to throw a pedal party and still get to work on time. Don’t even try to pretend this ain’t fun. Tuesday, April 22.

8. Grab some free compost

Every fall the Portland Bureau of Transportation composts over 5,000 tons of leaves collected annually through the city's Leaf Day program. This effort helps keep streets safe by preventing clogged storm drains, flooded intersections, and slippery roads. And guess what? This spring, we have so much compost we’re giving it away for free!  Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27.

9. Dig deeper

The City of Portland has many dedicated experts working on a slew of initiatives that connect to Earth Day, sustainability, climate resilience, and allied topics. Here’s a handful of key projects.
