Station 9

Information
Station 9 serves the Hawthorne neighborhood in Southeast Portland.

Fire Station 9 – Hawthorne

Placed into public service in August 2003, Station 9 was built to replace the Historic Belmont Fire House which was over 100 years old. Station 9 is located at 1706 S.E. 39th Ave. in the heart of the bustling urban, residential neighborhood of the Hawthorne Business District. The members of Engine 9 respond to a community which has largely transitioned from single-family neighborhoods into a high-density area of apartments, condominiums, and commercial businesses. It serves the Buckman, Kearns, Sunnyside, Laurelhurst, and Richmond neighborhood associations. Currently the fire station houses a single engine company but was designed and built to accommodate a double company as a future option. A Mobile Communication/Command Vehicle is also quartered at Station 9. This highly specialized apparatus is utilized on all greater alarms and incidents deemed necessary by the Incident Commander. It provides an array of multiple redundant communication and information resources such as 800 MHz, UHF, VHF, HF radio’s, satellite uplinks for database and media access, wireless LAN and WEB communications, and live CCTV from a mast-mounted color/ infrared camera. The Mobile Communication Center has the ability to support all Fire Bureau operations the event of a major disaster.
