Station 26 – Portsmouth/ University Park
Station 26 is located at 5247 N. Lombard and serves the University Park and Portsmouth neighborhoods. The station was originally built in 1938 and remodeled in 2002. Station 26 houses both a frontline Engine and a Reserve Engine. The crew at Station 26 consists of a paramedic officer and three firefighters each day.
Station 26’s fire management area is very diverse, ranging from high-density residential neighborhoods to large commercial properties along Columbia Blvd. With a river to the north and south of the response area, often engine 26 crews work in conjunction with fire boats during emergencies on or near the water. Every dry season there is also a very serious threat of brush fires on the bluffs that parallel Willamette Blvd.
The University of Portland campus is located about a half a mile south of the fire station. Engine 26 crews work closely with university staff to provide emergency services to over 4,000 students and firefighters are often present on the campus, attending fire drills and working out at the university fitness center. The crews at this firehouse are actively involved in the community, attending many block parties and summer camps to educate residents about fire safety. Engine 26 is often in attendance at community meetings to stay informed of what's happening in their area. Crew members are also supporters of local athletes at the University of Portland and Roosevelt High School. Station 26 consists of a tight knit group of people and everyone is very proud of the firehouse and the area they serve.
