Station 16 – Sylvan Heights
Station 16, one of the newest, was completed in 2001 and started operation on January 2, 2002. It is a certified Energy Trust of Oregon building. Portland Fire Station 16 became the first city building in Portland to integrate a photovoltaic system into their utilities, demonstrating that even critical-function structures can make use of clean, renewable power. Station 16’s response area encompasses approximately 10 square miles which includes the Oregon Zoo and nearly 5 miles of Highway 26. Station 16’s response area is bordered by Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway to the south and N.W. Cornell Rd. to the north, from I-405 on the east to Highway 217 and beyond to the west. Station 16 is dispatched by both BOEC (Bureau of Emergency Communications – Portland) and WACCA (Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency). It is the only station in Portland that is equipped with two “tapout”/ dispatch systems. Another great example of how Portland Fire and its partner agencies work together to provide seamless emergency response to our residents and those in our response areas.
