Portland Fire & Rescue Wildland Deployments 2023

Tuesday, 6/13, at approximately 1715, the Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) mobilized six task forces and an incident management team to Umatilla County as firefighters battle two fast-moving wildfires.  Governor Tina Kotek invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the Hat Rock fire and Mount Hebron fire to provide these additional resources.

Level 2 evacuation orders are in place through the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office for the Hat Rock fire, and some residents self-evacuated due to the fire activity on the Mount Hebron fire. Local fire officials have confirmed some outbuildings were lost in the Mount Hebron fire.

The OSFM's Green Incident Management Team will be briefed and assume command. The six task forces are coming from around the state through the Oregon Fire Mutual Aid System.

PF&R has provided the following task force and IMT resources:

Portland Fire & Rescue Wildland Deployments 2021

Portland Fire & Rescue has a responsibility to dedicate resources to the Oregon State Fire Marshal when deployments are requested. So far in 2021 PF&R has deployed the following resources:

  • - 6/30 Wrentham Fire, Wasco County (NE of Dufur): Sent resources as part of the Multnomah County Task Force and deployed three members as part of the state’s IMT.
  • - 7/2 Sunset Valley Fire, Wasco County (east of The Dalles): OSFM re-deployed the County Task Force resources to help on this fire due to being within the area and loss to property was imminent.  They worked side by side with the local community, farmers, and fire department and were able to contain the fire to approximately a 1000 acres.  Had the state not redeployed resources and implemented aggressive containment measures, this fire could have blown up to over 50,000 acres within 48 hours due to the dry conditions and red flag weather.
  • 7/6 - Jack Fire, Douglas County: deployed 3 members as part of the state’s IMT Blue Team
  • 7/10 - Boot Leg Fire, Klamath County- Mobilized as part of the Multnomah County Task Force and also deployed 1 member as part of the OSFM’s IMT (Green Team).
  • 7/12 - Grandview Fire (Sisters Area), State’s (IMT) Red Team- deployed 3 members to help with incident management.
  • 7/17 - Elbow creek IMT team members deployed
  • 8/10 - Middle Fork Complex fire, Lane County Red Team deployed
  • 8/13 – Fox Complex (formerly Patton Meadow) Fire in Lake County
  • 9/9 - Cougar Peak Fire in Lake County
