A typical day at the Firefighter Recruit Academy

Information

The typical day at PF&R's Training Academy is very busy. There are academic and physical fitness components to the day, and a lot of information is compressed into the schedule.  PF&R takes pride in its extensive training and, as a result, PF&R's training program is one of the longest, most arduous training programs in the country.

Recruit Firefighters will spend 6 months in PF&R's Training Academy. Recruits must be seated at their desk prepared for the day at 7:00 am. The Recruit Academy typically runs Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am. to 5:00 pm.

Recruits should be prepared for lectures, quizzes and examinations every day they come to class. Because the schedule is dynamic, all equipment, books and uniforms should be brought to work everyday regardless of the expected schedule.

The following is a sample of the daily schedule. Classroom and drill ground time will vary from week to week. The schedule is dynamic and will vary depending on the educational and training opportunities.
