How To Identify Local Law Enforcement

Guide
Law enforcement officers in Portland have clearly recognizable uniforms, vehicles, and badges. Learn how to identify Portland police officers.

Portland relies on the hard work and dedication of local law enforcement officers to keep us safe and protect our rights.

Portland is a sanctuary city and Oregon is a sanctuary state. That means local and state police officers don't enforce immigration law. They don't have the legal authority to do that.

Please remember that local law enforcement officers, federal law enforcement officers, and Oregon National Guard members are all human beings. They are neighbors and friends with family and roots here.

Note: We have included images of the most common uniforms worn by officers. Officers occasionally wear different uniforms based on their assignments.
