As Mayor of the City of Portland, I Ted Wheeler, jointly with the Commissioner of Economic & Community Development, Carmen Rubio, request City Council confirmation of the following appointments to the Prosper Portland Board:

Michi Slick Bio:

Michi Slick moved to Portland in 2017 and is a believer in the city’s differentiated community and culture.  Michi is the Principal of Development for Killian Pacific, a Portland-based company that owns and develops apartment, office, industrial, and mixed-use real estate properties regionally. Michi is one of the company’s owners, a member of the firm’s Leadership Team and Investment Committee and oversees all development projects from acquisition through construction. She serves on the City of Portland’s Advance Portland Advisory Committee, City of Vancouver’s City Center Redevelopment Authority, Oregon Smart Growth’s Policy Committee, and Urban Land Institute’s Portland NEXT Committee. Before Killian Pacific, Michi worked in real estate development in New York, Washington D.C., and Shanghai, and spent several years prior with architecture firms in New York and Los Angeles. Michi received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Yale University and a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

“I have lived in Portland since 2017, and Portland has allowed me to realize a greater sense of purpose, personally and professionally, which I attribute to the tremendous sense of community that permeates our city. As such, I am grateful for this opportunity to share my interest in serving on Prosper Portland’s Board to hopefully contribute towards building equitable economic growth and vibrancy in Portland – especially important goals during this pivotal time for Portland.

I believe that Prosper Portland has a critical role in partnering with our community and other jurisdictional staff and leaders to chart the path for our city’s future.  I hope to bring to bear for Prosper Portland my passion for bringing equity to market-rate institutional-scale real estate development projects, experience working in the private sector in real estate, and perspective from living and working in multiple cities prior to settling down in Portland.

Marcelino Alvarez Bio:

Marcelino Alvarez is the CEO of Photon Marine, which is building the world’s most powerful and intelligent electric outboard motor system, tailored to commercial boat fleets. Marcelino began his career in advertising, producing digital campaigns at Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Wieden + Kennedy. Afterwards, he founded Uncorked Studios, a product design firm that helped companies such as Samsung, Nike, Google, Intel, and adidas bring innovative software and hardware products to market.  Marcelino serves as a mentor for PIE (Portland Incubator Experiment) and is a member of Board of Directors for The Freshwater Trust.

With a career spanning impactful leadership roles in advertising, product design, and now climate technology, I bring a unique blend of experience that aligns seamlessly with the agency's mission to drive our city's economic development.

My decade-long collaboration with Prosper Portland has been deeply rewarding. From partnering on neighborhood development projects like Produce Row to actively participating in initiatives such as TechTown PDX, I have witnessed firsthand the agency's unwavering commitment to propelling our city forward. This synergy between our efforts underscores my belief in the agency's pivotal role in cultivating a thriving and inclusive economy for all.
