As Mayor and Commissioner of Finance & Administration, I request Council confirmation of the following appointment to the Noise Review Board.

John Zimmerman is a registered professional acoustical and electrical engineer. Mr. Zimmerman is retired after working 40 years at Portland General Electric, with experience working with management, construction and accounting staffs, vendors, customers, and other field personnel staff.

He has worked at many other engineering-consulting firms with experience as an assembly-plant sales application engineer, a union motor-inspector helper, apprentice-electrician helper in the blast-furnace maintenance department of U.S. Steel Corporation and later in industrial settings for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Member Statement:

I am enthusiastic about being a City of Portland volunteer serving on the Noise Review Board. My volunteering in Portland began through the National Society of Professional Engineers, where I voluntarily conducted middle-school mathematics competitions in the tri-county area for more than 30 years while also serving as a volunteer officer in the Columbia Chapter of the Professional Engineers of Oregon. Over my 50 adult years in Portland, I have volunteered as a Portland Neighborhood Association officer for decades as general clean-up,etc. volunteer and a volunteer officer in the Corbett-Terwilliger, Sellwood-Moreland and Bridlemile contingents. I understand that Portlanders deserve to be heard. The quieter ones should not be overpowered in decibels by those who are non- compliant with our myriad of in-place and thoughtful legislation.
