Most City of Portland offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Meet Councilor Pirtle-Guiney

Information
Hi! I’m Elana, and I’m one of your three City Councilors in Portland’s new multi-Councilor District system.

My wife and I live in NE Portland with our two kids, a dog, a cat, and three chickens.

I had many job titles before running for City Council, but the work I’ve done has all boiled down to one thing: getting the right people to sit down around a table together, identify our goals, and figure out how to get there. I’m a doer, a problem solver. And I bring that approach to City Hall.

I’ve been an organizer for labor unions, an advocate for working people, and a policy expert helping ensure our State’s workforce programs are preparing Oregonians for living-wage jobs. As a member of Governor Kate Brown’s executive team, I built coalitions to develop energy-efficient code policies, expand workforce training opportunities, and pass Oregon’s first Governor-backed racial justice agenda. I also managed relationships between the Governor and the Oregon Legislature during COVID-19. In 2022, I led the grassroots coalition that helped pass Measure 114, Oregon’s gun violence prevention ballot measure.

I have served on a variety of public and private boards and commissions, including the Oregon Workforce Investment Board, the Workers’ Compensation Management-Labor Advisory Committee, Portland City Club’s Board of Governors, Congregation Beth Israel’s Board of Directors, and the Vice Chair of the Portland Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

I’ve spent my career working on economic and social justice issues. As your City Councilor I will work to make our community more resilient, fight for living wage jobs and local businesses, and always put our kids first.

I will make decisions that will address the challenges we face today and also build the Portland we want to live in twenty years from now – a Portland that is more safe, more equitable, more sustainable and resilient, where every kid has opportunity, and can see their future.

Please reach out. I want to hear how things are going in your neighborhood – the great community building, the unsafe street crossings, the programs we need more of. I want to work with you to make sure every community in District 2 is a great place to live and work.
