Environmental Services and Portland Parks & Recreation collaborated on a project to build nature patches and rain gardens to manage stormwater in Irving Park. The project will help prevent nearby flooding, sewer basement backups, and sewage overflows into the Willamette River during storms.
NE 6th Drive Pump Station Project

The project is starting construction and will take about two years to complete.
Environmental Services is constructing a project to expand and remodel the 44-year-old NE 6th Drive Pump Station in the East Columbia neighborhood. The upgrades will modernize equipment, increase system capacity, and protect public health and the environment.

Community Development Partners and Self-Enhancement, Inc. are building 63 units of affordable family housing in Overlook with priority to displaced or longtime residents of North/Northeast Portland under the City’s Preference Policy.
North Bradford Sewer Project

Construction is expected to begin in July 2024 and take about 6 months to complete.
Environmental Services is designing a project to abandon a deteriorated sewer pipe under North Bradford Street between Burlington and Richmond Avenues and reroute all private connections to adjacent streets. Taking these actions now will help prevent sewage releases and improve future maintenance.

Kenton Priority Outfalls Plan

Environmental Services is developing the Kenton Priority Outfalls Plan. This planning effort will protect public health and the environment by identifying ways to reduce pollutants in stormwater entering the Columbia Slough.

Rosa Parks Lateral Sewer Project

The project is currently scheduled to begin in late Summer 2024.
Environmental Services is designing a project to repair multiple sewer lateral connections from private properties to the main sewer line. This project will reduce the risks of basement sewer backups, flooding, and emergency repairs in the future.
N Winchell and Watts St. Sewer Extension Project

The project is in the design phase. Construction is expected to begin in April 2025.
Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is designing a project to extend the public sewer system in N Winchell and N Watts Streets east of Fenwick Avenue. This work is part of the City’s ongoing effort to provide a way to directly and independently connect to the public sewer system.
