The Burnside Concept Plan provides a long-term conceptual vision for Burnside Street. The plan includes recommendations for streetscape design, improvements for all modes of transportation, and an implementation strategy.

Given its age and condition, the Balch Gulch Bridge was in critical need of modernization and rehabilitation. Uneven wooden sidewalks caused pedestrians to trip and slip during soggy Portland days.

Portland’s 30-mile Wildwood Trail once suffered a major flaw: its crossing at Burnside Road. With an average 18,000 vehicles passing daily, hikers were forced to dodge traffic in their pursuit of nature. The Barbara Walker Crossing now enhances access to nature by making this crossing safe.

The community-endorsed plan will result in safer pedestrian crossings, a bicycle lane, reduced travel speeds for motor vehicles, and increased pedestrian space.

NW Naito Parkway is undergoing a street design change to improve safety conditions for people walking and bicycling.

The project will shorten crossing distances for pedestrians and provide a new northbound bicycling connection into Old Town from the existing bike lanes on Stark and Oak Streets.

This project replaces a distressed rubble retaining wall that supports a small portion of SW Broadway Drive.

The Portland Water Bureau replaced the water mains (pipes) serving NW Penridge, Skyline Crest, and Greenleaf Roads in 2023. Larger pipes increase water flow to homes and hydrants.

The bridge connects the Northwest District and the Pearl District with a safer and more comfortable crossing over I‐405.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation's (PBOT) Northwest in Motion Plan represents over two years of analysis, community outreach, and problem-solving to improve walking, biking, and public transit in the Northwest District and surrounding area.

The project includes historic restoration of Keller Fountain Park, Pettygrove Park, Lovejoy Fountain Park, and the Source Fountain. This project is in partnership with the Halprin Landscape Conservancy and funded by the Portland Open Space Sequence Local Improvement District and the City of Portland

The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is paving SW Naito Parkway between I-405 and SW Lincoln and fully reconstructing the road between SW Harrison and SW Jefferson with safety and efficiency improvements for all travel modes.

Hillside Park’s grass athletic field will be closed from August 27, 2018, through March 1, 2019, while undergoing much-needed renovation.

This project improves conditions for people walking and biking on NW Flanders between Tom McCall Waterfront Park and NW 24th Avenue by upgrading crossings of busy streets and connecting new and existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.

The NW Everett Bus Lane project improved transit reliability and access to the Rose Quarter by creating a Bus and Turn (BAT) lane approaching the Steel Bridge. This project was identified as a priority during the Central City in Motion planning process.

This project created a new bus lane running eastbound across the Burnside Bridge starting at W 2nd Avenue and extending to 12th Avenue on the eastside.

The SW Madison Bus/Bike Lane project provides more reliable bus rides and more safety by bicyclists by creating a new bus and bike lane approaching the Hawthorne Bridge.
