The Willamette River Crossing project is currently in the design and exploration phase. We completed a geotechnical probe in August 2020, and are performing more geotechnical exploration to choose the best tunneling technology and route to cross the Willamette River.

The Portland Water Bureau continues design and planning work to replace the water mains (pipes) serving NW Penridge, Skyline Crest, and Greenleaf Roads. These mains will be replaced with larger pipes to increase the flow of water to people's homes and to help put out fires.

The Water Bureau will construct a new 175,000-gallon water storage tank in Forest Park. The new tank is part of a broader effort to increase the amount of water available on Portland's west side for firefighting and earthquake preparedness.

Engineering and design
The Water Bureau is planning to replace 4,800 feet—just under a mile—of an aging water main (pipe) along SE Lambert and 19th Ave. The existing main was installed in 1927, and has had six breaks in the last ten years. This new pipe will make your water service more reliable and improve water quality.

NE 47th Avenue from north of Columbia Boulevard to south of Cornfoot Road was one of Portland’s most deteriorated road segments. The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is completely reconstructing the road, adding multiuse paths on both sides of the street for pedestrians and people biking.

Cedar Commons, a new development by Related Northwest and Central City Concern in the Powellhurst-Gilibert neighborhood, will provide 60 affordable units targeted to people exiting homelessness.

Sewer and Stormwater
Nature patch work was completed in February 2021. Rain garden and green street planter design is in progress and will continue through Fall 2021. Construction of the rain gardens and green street planters is currently scheduled to begin February 2022.

Environmental Services and Portland Parks & Recreation are collaborating on a project to build nature patches and rain gardens to manage stormwater in Irving Park. The project will help prevent nearby flooding, sewer basement backups, and sewage overflows into the Willamette River during storms.
