About the Office of Violence Prevention (OVP):

The Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) views gun violence as a public health problem, and the approach to the problem is based on a shared understanding that violence is a virus. The understanding that viruses can both be prevented and treated guides our treatment plan. By addressing the root causes and social determinants of violence, upstream programs can prevent violence from occurring.
