Party, On Portland! is a citywide, community-led placemaking initiative to strengthen connections, celebrate culture, and build safer neighborhoods. Residents can transform their streets into vibrant community spaces, build relationships, share resources, and foster a collective sense of belonging.

Why are public safety staff no longer participating in Party On, Portland! ?

Due to budget, staffing, and overtime constraints, the City of Portland will be coordinating four free National Night Out events in each of the City's voting districts. By consolidating public safety programs into these four events, the City aims to streamline community participation and create more meaningful opportunities for residents to connect with multiple programs in one place.

Who can register for a Party On, Portland! party?

Any community member who lives in the city of Portland hosting their party at an address that is within the city boundaries. Not sure about your address? Find out if your party address is within the city.

How do I get a permit for my party?

For Park Permits (without a neighborhood association): Reserve a parks facility

For Portland Bureau of Transportation Block Party Permits: Get a block party permit

All registered parties will be provided a Noise Variance Permit by the City of Portland in compliance with Code Title 18 Noise Control.

I don't live in the city of Portland. Can I still register for a party?

No, in order to be able to register  the location of the party must be at an address within the city boundaries. Find out if your party address is within the city.

How do I block off my street in my neighborhood?

Your party must be on a street that is classified as "Local Service Traffic." In general, these are low-traffic residential streets. To verify your street classification, visit the Portland Bureau of Transportation: Transportation System Plan street classification map.

If your party is on a "Local Service Traffic" street, you can use household items, like garbage bins, recycle bins, or homemade barriers. For more information, please visit the Portland Bureau of Transportation's Block Party Permit website.

If your party is more than one block or is adjacent to a non-Local Service Street, you must rent Type 3 barricades and additional signage from a private vendor.

What is included in my Party On, Portland! registration?

When you register for a party, you will be granted:

  • A free noise variance; and 
  • A Portland Bureau of Transportation block party permit, which is also available free of charge year-round to support community gatherings.

Additionally, if you are a neighborhood association, then you will qualify for a free park permit. Please make sure to indicate that you are a neighborhood association when you register. Verify your neighborhood association.

When can I have my party?

Between 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. from August 1-14, 2026.
