Safe Blocks’ latest resource fair in Dawson Park dubbed the “Reunion in the Community” on September 2, 2025 again proved successful with a good turnout and several new vendors joining in the collaboration.
Event highlights:
- The Urban League of Portland provided gift items, resources, and information to support community members in need.
- Nurture’s team conducted outreach to those impacted by gang violence.
- Taylor Made Comfort Food served over 200 community members a delicious meal.
- The Street Services Coordination Center transitioned a houseless individual into a tiny home and referred 36 community members needing shelter and housing.
- Self-Enhancement Inc. offered housing assessments.
- Vancouver First Baptist Church hosted a food pantry for the community.
Safe Blocks’ consistent activation and ongoing placemaking efforts via the Dawson Park community reunions and resource fairs are helping the neighborhood feel safe enough to enjoy Dawson Park again, including staff from Emanuel Hospital. As we move into the colder months, Safe Blocks, in collaboration with valued partners, will continue to create innovative ways to engage the community, reduce gun violence, and make community members feel safe.
