Community Peace Collaborative - Wear Orange

Community Event
Join us and Wear Orange at the Portland Office of Violence Prevention's Community Peace Collaborative (CPC) meeting.
10:30 am 12:00 pm

This month’s Community Peace Collaborative (CPC) forum will be a special edition dedicated to Wear Orange and gun violence prevention awareness.

What is CPC?

The Community Peace Collaborative forum is a monthly gathering hosted by the City of Portland’s Office of Violence Prevention. These meetings bring together local organizations, leaders, community members, and service providers to share updates, collaborate on initiatives, and build stronger, safer communities.

What to expect on June 6th

  • Expanded breakfast and refreshments;
  • Free Wear Orange t-shirts for attendees;
  • A brief overview of the Wear Orange movement;
  • An interactive activity to honor lives affected by gun violence; and
  • A time to connect and network with community members and partners.

This gathering is open to all who care about making our communities safer and showing support for gun violence prevention efforts in Portland and beyond.

What is Wear Orange?

Wear Orange is a national campaign that began in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, a Chicago teenager who was shot and killed just one week after performing at President Obama's second inaugural parade in 2013. Her friends chose the color orange—the color hunters wear to protect themselves from gunfire—to raise awareness about gun violence and honor the countless lives lost or forever changed by it.

Today, Wear Orange is observed annually across the country as a time for communities to come together, advocate for change, and show support for survivors of gun violence. This is an opportunity for community members to stay informed about ongoing gun violence prevention efforts, network with local organizations and nonprofits, and collaborate on solutions to reduce gun violence in our community. Current Office of Violence Prevention contractors and grantees will be present to share the work they do in the community.
