Building a Safer Portland: Our Strategic Plan for Community Safety
The City of Portland is committed to creating a safer community where everyone can access help when they need it, services are coordinated effectively, and our safety systems are accountable and adaptable to community needs.
A Unified Approach
In fall 2023, Portland started developing a plan to improve our public safety systems. This plan involves the Bureau of Emergency Communications (911), the Office of Violence Prevention, the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management, Portland Fire & Rescue, and the Portland Police Bureau. Our goal is to make these services work better together, especially for Portland’s most vulnerable communities.
Our Vision for Safety
Our Strategic Plan is based on Portland’s core values:
•Anti-racism
•Equity
•Transparency
•Communication
•Collaboration
•Fiscal Responsibility
We aim to create a safer Portland by making sure everyone can get help when they need it, coordinating services efficiently, and keeping our system accountable and adaptable to the community’s needs.
Community Engagement
To shape the Strategic Plan, we need your input. The Public Safety Service Area will engage with the community to help determine the plan’s vision, mission, values, and goals. Your feedback is essential to building a safety system that truly serves our community.
Join us in creating a safer Portland. Together, we can build a community where everyone feels secure and supported.
