Its not an exaggeration to say we have endured a lot this past year. The silver lining has been witnessing how our communities have helped one another through grief and emergencies-- from banging on pots and pans celebrating front line workers to Portlanders gathering to demand racial justice.
Earlier this summer Civic Life's Community Safety program partnered with the City Arts Program and Portland's 2018-21 Creative Laureate, Subashini Ganesan, to create "Community Safety and Healing Through Art." This pilot grant program aims to support recovery and resilience in the City of Portland.
We are pleased to announce the Community Safety and Healing Through Art 2021 grantees have been awarded a total of $20,000 for art-inspired projects that allow communities to address safety and healing. “This is the first collaboration for the Community Safety program that invests in community arts and healing," said Community Safety Partnerships Coordinator Sandra Lefrançois. "These projects center community voices, and asks them to identify and lead practices for healing, feeling safe, and thriving in Portland. “
