We believe that our friends, classmates, neighbors, and all in our community benefit from taking an active role in public safety discourse. We are working to connect with those who are curious and willing to dismantle institutions that are harming us for the sake of liberation, the dignity of our planet, and building something beyond the carceral punitive systems that disappear our communities.

Everywhere people are struggling to imagine how we address harm without the use of the state. These virtual events will build upon our collective imagination while beginning to address anti-Black racism, settler-colonialism, and gender violence in our movements.

The variety of free trainings, workshops, and panels we are offering is part of the We Keep Us Safe: Active Community Intervention series facilitated by Black & Beyond the Binary Collective , guest facilitators/panelist and is sponsored by the Constructing Civic Dialogues program through the Office of Community and Civic Life.

The first of this series will be regarding how to practice active intervention in daily situations.

Goals for this training are:

  • Understanding what Community Safety Intervention is.
  • Understanding the 5 D’s of Community Safety & Intervention.
  • Learn key strategies for when intervening.
  • Learn safety and awareness tips when & while intervening.

** We request that you sign-up for this training with a partner as this training includes exercises that require another individual in the room with you. We ask that both folx make a plan after this training to practice these skills in an intentionally and regularly way after this training.**
