In February 2024, the Advisory Bodies Program convened an internal City workgroup for the purpose of creating a restructuring plan for the City's advisory bodies (also known as boards and commissions). In June 2024, the Advisory Bodies Program paused the workgroup and pivoted to conducting an inventory on the City's advisory bodies.
The Advisory Bodies Program inventory was conducted to:
- Gather information to report on and analyze the current state of the City's advisory bodies.
- Support the engagement officer and the incoming city council to make decisions around the City's advisory bodies moving forward.
In conducting this inventory, the Advisory Bodies Program gathered information on each advisory body, such as their websites, who staffs them, how often they meet, who appoints their members, and basic documents such as bylaws and charters. Crucially, the inventory lists the authoritative documents of each advisory body, whether found in the city charter, city code, or elsewhere.
Accompanying the inventory is a current state analysis (as of December 2024) of the City's advisory bodies. The analysis summarizes the findings of the inventory and provides background, as well as recommendations for the City's advisory bodies moving forward.
