The City Budget Office provides timely, accurate, and unfiltered information and analysis regarding budgeting, forecasting, and fiscal policy issues to the Mayor, Councilors, City Auditor, City bureaus, and the public.
Facing a historic shortfall, the Portland City Council took a big step towards adopting a $8.5 billion budget for fiscal year that starts July 1. Councilors approved nine amendments and rejected several others.
Councilors delivered a balanced budget for fiscal year 2026-2027, successfully closing a record gap of over $160 million. Balancing the budget required them to make painful decisions as they considered over 40 amendments. They can still propose more amendments before final adoption next month.
