About the Willamette River Greenway Inventory

Information
Purpose, background, timeline, and contact information for the project.

Statewide Planning Goal 15, Willamette River Greenway, aims “to protect, conserve, enhance, and maintain the natural, scenic, historical, agricultural, economic and recreational qualities of lands along the Willamette River.” Goal 15 requires local jurisdictions to inventory existing conditions in the City’s Greenway boundary to understand the area’s characteristics and inform planning efforts. The inventory includes data and maps describing land uses, zoning designations, natural resources and historic resources. The inventory does not propose any changes to regulations on properties within the Greenway boundary. City Council most recently adopted an update of the inventory in 2014.

In 2018, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability staff prepared the latest update to the Willamette River Greenway Inventory, which incorporates changes resulting from the adoption of the 2035 Comprehensive Plan and Central City 2035. The Willamette River Greenway Inventory Recommended Draft, published in October 2020, is the Planning and Sustainability Commission recommendation from March 2019.

City Council will conduct a hearing on the Willamette River Greenway Inventory Recommended Draft in November 2020.
