Community-led events
In addition to Dumpster Day events, we supported nonprofit partners in their work to offer bulky waste disposal services directly to Portlanders in multifamily communities and to community members with limited mobility or access to transportation.
- 28 events
- At least 1,315 households served
- At least 64 tons (128,000 pounds) of waste collected
- At least 299 cubic yards of material reused or recycled, plus more that was shared within the community
These events were organized by:
- Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA)
- REACH CDC
- Sabin CDC
- Guerreras Latinas
- Trash for Peace
- Home Forward
- Taking Ownership PDX
We supported these community-led events by covering all disposal costs and providing financial support for event planning and promotion. Some events received additional support through Metro’s Regional Refresh Fund.
Large item disposal & donation options
Curbside collection of bulky waste
Houses, duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes: Your garbage company can pick up oversized items right from the curb, at rates set by the City. Contact your garbage company to get a cost estimate and pick-up date.
Curbside bulky waste collection
Apartments: Ask your property manager where to put large items for disposal.
Junk removal companies
There are many businesses that will clear out and clean up your unwanted stuff and haul it away directly from your house, garage, driveway, or apartment.
Do a web search for “junk removal Portland” to find options. We recommend getting multiple quotes.
Drop-off & donation options
If you're not sure if something could be donated or recycled or if it's hazardous waste, search Metro’s Find a Recycler tool, call 503-234-3000, or submit a question.
Or take a look at these drop-off and pick-up options for recycling, donation, and disposal.
