In October 2019, Mayor Ted Wheeler directed the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability to work with community organizations, residents, City bureaus, and partner agencies to gather feedback on a draft Climate Emergency Declaration. The Declaration recognizes and reflects the leadership of frontline communities, who bear the worst burden of climate change. It also charts a new trajectory for the City’s climate action work.

The Mayor’s Office and the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability received more than 300 public comments, which were used to refine the Declaration. Review a summary of comments and a description of how comments were incorporated into the updated Declaration:

City Council will hold a public hearing and vote on the Climate Emergency Declaration during a special session on Tuesday, June 30.
