Portland’s Commercial Building Energy Reporting program requires most commercial buildings 20,000 square feet and larger to track building energy performance and report this information by April 22 each year. Building owners may use professional assistance with reporting and verification, but this is not required. These helpful instructions are designed to help property owners complete this process simply and efficiently.
Annual energy performance reporting
If you prefer to use a private firm to complete the reporting process on your behalf, visit Building Potential, which maintains a directory of businesses that can help owners with compliance.
Verifying energy performance information
The energy performance information reported to the City annually is considered self-reported. Some buildings managers take an additional voluntary step to have this information verified by a licensed professional.
In addition to lending credibility to the data that is published by the City annually, verified or certified buildings are eligible for special recognition. ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® maintains a searchable directory of licensed professionals that can help building owners verify the information in their building profile. The review is typically performed by either a registered architect or professional engineer.
