Following former Environmental Services Director Mike Jordan's transition to the City's Chief Administrative Officer in the Office of Management and Finance, Commissioner Mingus Mapps began a nationwide search in April 2022 for a new Director. Since April, Commissioner Mapp's Office has initiated a multi-step recruitment process centered around engagement.
In June, the Commissioner's Office surveyed Environmental Services employees on what attributes they would like to see in the Bureau's next director. Later in the summer, the Commissioner's Office spoke to Bureaus with overlapping work, engaged equity practitioners, and met with non-profits and business leader advocates. These actions have helped inform Commissioner Mapps of the top skills and desired attributes he will seek in the next Environmental Services Director.
The position has been posted, and the nationwide open search process began on December 5, 2022. The Director search timeline is as follows:
June-July 2022
