SW 17th Avenue Emergency Sewer Repair

Environmental Services has repaired a sinkhole that developed on SW 17th Avenue between SW Columbia and SW Clay streets. The sinkhole exposed a cavity beneath the roadway revealing damage to a brick-constructed sewer trunk line that was built in 1889.
Emergency repairs on the sinkhole have been completed. Further repairs to more sections of the trunk sewer line are anticipated to begin in Spring 2026. Final Paving Scheduled for July 16 and 17.

What's Happening Now

Crews have repaired the sinkhole, secured the area, and closed SW 17th Avenue between SW Clay Street and SW Columbia Street to vehicle traffic to ensure public safety. Sewer and water service in the area remains active and continues to function normally.

Environmental Services has finished repairs to the entire section of main sewer line along this block. Further repairs to other sections of the trunk sewer line are currently in design with construction anticipated to begin in Spring 2026.
