NE 20th and Brazee Sewer Project

Sewer and Stormwater
Active
Environmental Services is designing a project to replace the main sewer line on NE 20th Avenue between Brazee and Thompson streets. Sections of the pipe are over 115 years old and in deteriorating condition. This project will reduce the risks of basement sewer backups and flooding in the future.
Design work is underway, and construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2025 and take three to four months to complete.

What's Happening Now

In late May, crews will be in the area conducting investigations and data-gathering activities, including inspecting pipes and maintenance holes, locating and marking underground utilities, and soil sampling. Some survey and locate activities have already occurred, and you may see markings on the street. Go to the Preconstruction webpage to find details about these activities and what the utility marking colors mean.

What to Expect During Soil Sampling

The soil sampling holes will be a few inches in diameter and will be filled immediately after the sampling is completed. This work may require temporary lane restrictions and on-street parking closures. There may be brief periods of noise, dust, and mild vibration during drilling. Work will last approximately two to four hours.
