This plan is part of a larger effort to protect the Columbia Slough from erodible solids and associated pollutants that may flow into the slough from stormwater that runs off Columbia Boulevard, other City rights-of-way, and adjacent properties in the Kenton Neighborhood including industrial and commercial facilities.
Plan Area
The plan will focus on Columbia Boulevard between North Chautauqua Boulevard and N Mississippi Avenue. The planning effort will also study potential solutions in the surrounding neighborhoods.
Schedule
The planning process will continue through early 2024. The result of this process will be a series of recommendations on how the City can best reduce pollutants in stormwater entering the Columbia Slough. Once initiated, design and construction are estimated to take five to ten years to complete.
What's Happening Now
Planners and engineers are working to identify possible ways to improve stormwater runoff quality and reduce pollution from entering the Columbia Slough. Planners are close to crafting a set of potential alternatives that will be shared with the community for review and comment. Bureau staff will be reaching out to the community to gather feedback on how well these potential alternatives align with community priorities.
